Preparations for Russia's year in Ukraine
The first meeting of the organising committee on the preparations for Russia's Year in Ukraine will be held in Yalta (a Ukrainian resort on the Black Sea) on Friday. Chiefs of the Russian and Ukrainian presidential administrations are heading the delegations of the two countries.
Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma proclaimed 2003 the Year of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, thus supporting the initiative of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, who proclaimed 2002 the Year of Ukraine in Russia.
