German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder is entirely satisfied with the results of his discussion of the Chechen problem with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Rosbalt's correspondent, he made this announcement at a press conference with representatives of the German media.
Schroeder described the plan for a constitutional referendum in Chechnya, which was explained to him by Putin, as 'highly sensible and undoubtedly feasible.' The Chancellor once again stressed, in line with his Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, that he considers the Chechen problem to be an internal matter for Russia and that he fully supports the battle against terrorism being waged by Russia.
