Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi and EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana pointed to the importance of the peaceful settlement of the Iraqi crisis during the talks in Brussels.
Kharrazi and Solana focused on Iraq's complete fulfilment of 1441 resolution of the UN Security Council and on cooperation between the Iraqi leadership and UN observers in order to prevent US military intervention, said the press service of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
In addition, they discussed the regional developments, in particular, the situation in Palestinian territories, occupied by Israel. "US overall support for Israel is a political mistake, which destabilises the situation and sets up serious obstacles to just peace in the region, the Iranian foreign minister said.
Kamal Kharrazi and Javier Solana expressed mutual satisfaction with the development and the current level of cooperation between Iran and the European Union and the interest in further dialogue.
In addition, the sides pointed to the importance of Iranian-EU talks on the signing of a trade and economic agreement to form an effective and long-term basis for cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the European Union.
