The US State Department has announced that the "Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan" /IDU/ is included in the list of international terrorist organizations, being recorded by the US government, according to a RIA Novosti correspondent.
The State Department statement stresses that the IDU has openly calls to overthrow Uzbekistan's government, undertaken responsibility for armed attacks on Kirghizia and Uzbekistan and, the USA believes, is responsible for the explosion in Tashkent in 1999 that killed 16 people. "There is evidence that the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan is planning new terrorist acts," the statement reads. It also reads that adding this organization to the list of international terrorist organizations gives the US Treasury the right to block asset movements on the US territory and also allows the authorities to deny the movement's representatives US entry visas and expel them from the country.
