Moscow values highly the present level of cooperation with Mozambique and is confident that the new realities of the two countries will impart an additional impulse to it.
This is said in a statement, received on Thursday by RIA Novosti, by Alexander Yakovenko, an official Foreign Ministry spokesman, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the signing in Rome on October 4 of an agreement on intra-Mozambican settlement.
Moscow is confident that the new realities emerging in the two countries will give an extra impulse to the entire complex of Russian-Mozambican ties, the document says.
The ending 10 years ago of 16 years of fighting opened up the way to national accord, to the building in that country of a state based on democratic rule.
The process of settlement in Mozambique had a clearly expressed international component. A big contribution to its realisation was made by the world community, the UN, different circles in a number of countries. Nor did Russia keep aloof. But the decisive factor in achieving peace was an aspiration of the whole Mozambican people for stability and calm.
"All these years Russia has followed with sympathy and interest the developments in friendly Mozambique, and welcomed the country's political and socio-economic reforms aimed at accomplishing the tasks of national revival," Yakovenko noted in his statement.
