The water level of the lakes formed through the glacier-slip in North Ossetia (North Caucasian Republic, hardest hit by the catastrophe resulting in numerous deaths ) has raised insignificantly during the past day, said on Friday a source at the Directorate of Natural Resources of the Nature Ministry for North Ossetia.
According to the source, specialists with the help of a laser non-reflecting range-finder conducted a topographical survey of the surface of the ice blockage and drew up a special map where a maximal zone of possible flooding is outlined, as well as the most rational ways to discharge the water. The map was submitted to the Emergencies Ministry.
In the settlement of Karmadon, the region of the glacier-slip, the set-up of a permanent observation point is being completed at the spurs of the mountain ridge. Climbers are taking part in the work.
