Abkhazia wants to become independent state

Abkhazia, a self-proclaimed republic in Georgia, has repeatedly announced that the UN document on delimitation of authorities between Tbilisi and Sukhumi is "unacceptable".

Sukhumi has no intention "to consider this document as it implies that the republic will remain a part of Georgia," stressed the unacknowledged republic's First Vice Premier and Defence Minister Raul Khadzhimba in his interview with RIA Novosti. "No one can force Abkhazia to turn off the road of building an independent state," Vice Premier said.

That is how Khadzhimba commented on the statement earlier made by the US government's special representative on Eurasian conflicts issues Rudolf Perina after his meeting with Georgian president Eduard Shevardnadze, which said that the American administration must convince or, at least, force Abkhazia's government to negotiate with the Georgian side on the so called "Boden document".

The draft of the document was developed by the UN former representative Dieter Boden. It implies that Abkhazia's conflict should be settled on the principle of Georgia's territorial integrity.
