The European Union wants to play a more active role in Southern Caucasus. According to the information service of the UN Association in Georgia, such was the statement made, today at a press conference by Europaminister Bertel Haarder.
He said that internal security and struggle against corruption was, in the Southern Caucasian states, important for increased inflow of foreign investments. 'The EU emphasises the necessity of strengthening democracy and human rights in the region', he said.
Mr. Haarder also said the European Union constantly appealed to Russia and Georgia to get a better control of their territories and respect the territorial integrity of their neighbours.
