Over a thousand policemen took part in a special operation carried out in Ingushetia's eastern districts bordering on Chechnya, the Russian Interior Ministry has reported on Tuesday.
The special operation aimed at preventing the infiltration of the Chechen rebels from Gelayev's gang into the territory of Ingushetia. At the end of September, they entered the republic from the Georgian territory and are possibly hiding in the mountainous woodland at the border with Chechnya.
On Monday, over 11.4 thousand citizens and over 800 vehicles were checked, as well as 18 public offices, 600 private homes and almost a thousand attics and basements. Cynologists with specially trained dogs have been engaged in the search for the dispersed bandit groups which resulted in spotting neither rebels nor the signs of their camps.
The divisions of the 58th Army are continuing investigative activities to track down bandits on Ingush territory as well as in the mountainous Chechen village of Bamut, for which the rebels were heading.
