Dmitriy Peskov, spokesman of the Russian President, believes that Montenegro's joining the NATO will generate new conflicts.
Expansion of the NATO has a negative character. The continent will probably face higher escalation, as Dmitriy Peskov commented on the situation.
Before that, the NATO has signed a protocol in Brussels on Montenegro's joining the alliance, that will enable the Republic to gain an observer status at the meetings. The protocol is the first step to full membership in the alliance. But it is also required a ratification of the document by the other 28 member-states of the NATO.
The NATO officials estimate that Montenegro will need about two years to join the NATO. The Russian Foreign Ministry believes invitation of Montenegro is an artificial one. According to Mariya Zakharova, Brussels want to speed up the process to make it irreversible.
Before that, Dmitriy Peskov claimed that the NATO's expansion will generate a Kremlin's response. And the Secretary General of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, does not want to have retaliatory sanctions from Moscow.
