A Pulitzer-winning journalist reveals that the US lied about the death of Osama bin Laden.
Seymour Hersh's exposing article is based on the data given by the senior intelligence official close to the bin Laden killing in May 2011.
The White House claimed that bin Laden was killed in a firefight with the US officials and that Pakistani officials weren't told about the raid in advance. However, it turned out that while Obama touted bin Laden's capture in a Pakistani compound as an "all-American affair", the US officials got assistance from upper-level Pakistani officials. Moreover, Hersh writes that bin Laden wasn't "hiding" in Pakistan when Navy Seals found him like the US government claimed.
Rather, Hersh alleges, Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence was holding bin Laden as a prisoner. A former senior Pakistani intelligence officer tipped the US off about bin Laden's whereabouts in exchange for $25 million.
The information is reportedly corroborated by the two longtime consultants to Special Operations Command in the US as well as Pakistani sources.
