Ukraine opens criminal cases against Russian politicians

Advisor to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Zorian Shkiryak said that his department filed criminal proceedings against the leader of the Communist Party of Russia Gennady Zyuganov and LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky.

"The Central Investigation Department of the Ministry for Internal Affairs of Ukraine opened criminal proceedings against citizens of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov and Vladimir Zhirinovsky," he told Interfax on Friday.

According Shkiryak, the two Russian politicians were charged with "financing the actions aimed at changing the state border of Ukraine." The official promised to expose more information later.

On Tuesday, July 22, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov said that the Central Investigation Department of the Ukrainian Ministry for Internal Affairs filed a criminal case against Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and businessman Konstantin Malofeev under Part 5 of Article 260 ("Creating extralegal paramilitary or armed groups") and Parts 3 and 5 of Article 27 ("Conspirator in crime") of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
