This fifth European exhibition entitled Denkmal-2002 opens in Leipzig today. In consideration of the importance of the restoration of monuments, the exhibition council of the St. Petersburg administration has put this exhibition on its list of priorities and offered financial support with money out of St. Petersburg's budget. The Committee for the State Control, Use, and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, St. Petersburg's Union of Restorers, and the Restek exhibition association have organised their collective exhibit at the Denkmal-2002.
St. Petersburg's restorers have taken part in Denkmal exhibitions before. The difference this year is that the delegation, besides representatives of companies, includes individual masters, such as gild restorers, enamel artists, mosaics artists, and roof restorers. The artists from St. Petersburg made a presentation on stage of the processes and technologies involved in their arts and the results.
Chairman of the Union of Restorers Alexander Likhomanov said that St. Petersburg's artists came to the exhibition to share and exchange experience and familiarize their European colleagues with St. Petersburg 's school of restoration, while presenting a number of works.
