Russian, Estonian, Finnish Environmentalists to Protect Gulf of Finland Together

An international symposium entitled 'The Changing Ecology of the Gulf of Finland' closed in Tallinn, Estonia, yesterday. It was attended by environmentalists from Russia, Estonia, and Finland. According to a Rosbalt's reporter, the representatives of the three countries agreed to cooperate protecting the ecology of the gulf.

The head of the Russian delegation, Doctor of Biology from the Institute for Zoology of St. Petersburg, Sergei Golubkov said that the 'weak points' of the gulf's environment had been determined were the condition of water, vegetation, and sea animals, such as molluscs indicates trouble. The Finnish and Estonian participants said the gulf and coastline were unfavourably affected by ferry transportation, while Russian environmentalists noted the harmful effects of unclean fresh water entering the gulf.

Information that came to light as the symposium continued will be entered into a database, which will lie in the basis of tri-lateral environmental projects and the model of the ecological system of the gulf to be created.
