In case Iraq agrees to the new UN resolution, head of the international observers' mission in that country Hans Blix may set off for Baghdad already on November 18th. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov said this to newsmen Monday. In his words, there is a possibility that the IAEA head will join Hans Blix in his trip to Iraq. They are expected to negotiate in Baghdad the character of the inspections, some organisational aspects, including renting accommodation and cars.
Under the new resolution, Hans Blix will determine the composition of the inspection mission.
According to Fedotov, Russian experts - seven people - are already in the HQ of the international observers' mission. To quote the high-profile diplomat, they are servicemen, experts, officials from the Russian Ammunition Agency (Rosboyepripasy) and the defence ministry.
Fedotov remarked that a whole range of Russian experts had received training organised by the international weapons inspection mission in different countries around the world. They were introduced into the methods of international inspectors. Head of the mission Hans Blix spoke in front of them, noting that they should not carry out cavalry charges but work seriously with due respect for Iraq's national peculiarities and its sovereignty.
