At least eight children have been killed and four injured in a collision between a school bus and a train in South Africa, local reports say.
The accident happened at a railway crossing near Cape Town when the driver drove round a closed gate, witnesses were quoted as saying, BBC News reports.
President Jacob Zuma and Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele, who are currently on a state visit to China, conveyed condolences to the families of the children.
South Africa's privately owned minibus taxi industry provides the bulk of public transport to South Africans but is plagued by poor driving and safety standards, Sky News informs.
