A Swiss official reported Friday, Roman Polanski will remain in a jail for at least three more days until he meets the security conditions of his bail.

Polanski wouldn't be placed under house arrest in Switzerland before Monday, because he has yet to fulfill all the requirements to ensure that he stays in his chalet in the Swiss luxury resort of Gstaad, Justice Ministry spokesman Folco Galli said.

Galli did not elaborate, but the 76-year-old director must post $4.5 million bail, surrender his identity papers and be fitted with a monitoring bracelet.

Polanski cannot leave the chalet because the ministry is still deciding whether to extradite him to the United States for having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl. Authorities in Los Angeles want him sentenced after 31 years as a fugitive, The Associated Press reports.

it was also reported, Polanski was originally indicted on six charges, including rape, for having sex after plying the girl with champagne and drugs. He pleaded guilty to one count of sex with a minor.

But he skipped bail and fled before the case was concluded, believing a judge would sentence him to prison despite a plea for time already served.

The Swiss Justice Department is expected to decide "within weeks" on Polanski's possible extradition, but he could still appeal, potentially dragging out the dispute for months. He faces up to two years in a U.S. prison if he is extradited.

Polanski's films include "The Pianist" in 2002 for which he won an Academy Award, "Rosemary's Baby," "Repulsion" and "Knife in the Water," ABC News reports.

News agencies also repoirt, the court ultimately decided to release Polanski after he pledged $4.5 million in bail and agreed to electronic monitoring, which will alert authorities if he attempts to flee house arrest.

"It is very rare to get bail in an extradition case and especially in cases where the person's fled," Laurie Levenson, a former federal prosecutor and Loyola law professor, told the Los Angeles Times. "This is a little like giving bail to O.J. after the Bronco chase."

The L.A. Times reports that Polanski will likely stay at his three-story chalet, dubbed Milky Way, at a Gstaad ski resort.

Legal experts say the bail will only prolong the decision over whether Polanski should be extradited to L.A. to face sentencing for having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl, New York Daily News reports.
