Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Friday that it would expel Latvian diplomat due to Latvian expulsion of a Russian one.
An unidentified Latvian is to leave Russia within two days for exceeding authority and damaging Russia 's security interests.
Earlier this week a Russian diplomat was declared a person non grata in Latvia because he was alleged a threat to national security.
The real reasons seem to be hidden deeper.
Baltic States, including Latvia, accuse Russia (as a Soviet successor) of occupation since late 1930s until 1990s. Some of them are demanding huge compensations for those years. But Russia says it will pay the states only when they return money spent to build industries there that are still giving the Baltic nations good profits.
