Vice Chancellor Franz Muentefering, the top official in Chancellor Angela Merkel's "grand coalition" from the center-left Social Democrats, is to resign, German newspaper reported Wednesday.
The Berliner Zeitung daily cited unidentified "coalition sources" as saying that Muentefering, who is also the labor minister, was resigning for "purely family reasons." Officials could not immediately be reached for comment on the report.
