How to Manage Couperose and Strengthen Fragile Capillaries

Understanding Couperose: Causes, Prevention, and Care for Sensitive Skin

Couperose is more common in individuals with sensitive skin and a hereditary predisposition to fragile blood vessels. Dermatologist and cosmetologist Larisa Safonova discussed this condition with Pravda.Ru.

What Is Couperose?

According to Dr. Safonova, couperose is a condition where superficial blood vessels become fragile and dilated, forming a visible vascular network. Its development is influenced by genetics, individual nervous system characteristics, and overall health. People with heightened emotional sensitivity or gastrointestinal issues are more prone to this condition.

"Couperose occurs due to blood vessels located close to the skin surface, which are naturally fragile. It tends to appear in individuals with a genetic predisposition and a specific nervous system type — more emotional and excitable," explained Safonova.

Prevention and Lifestyle Tips

The expert emphasized that careful skincare and avoiding factors that exacerbate vascular reactions are crucial for prevention. For those who already show signs of couperose, it is important to limit very hot foods, coffee, and alcohol, as these temporarily dilate capillaries and can worsen the condition over time.

"To prevent permanent vessel dilation, strengthening the vessel walls is necessary. This can be achieved with specific medications and hardware treatments, but these should only be selected by a doctor. Self-selecting skincare products or procedures, especially for sensitive skin, can worsen the condition," the dermatologist noted.

Professional Guidance and Safe Treatments

Dr. Safonova warned that people with sensitive skin should avoid aggressive peels, scrubs, and overly intensive cosmetic procedures. Some laser techniques may be unsuitable or even aggravate couperose, making it essential to rely on a qualified cosmetologist for treatment selection.

Predisposition can sometimes be observed visually, as superficial vessels become noticeable. Persistent redness or a pronounced vascular network requires a specialist consultation. Additionally, caution is advised when visiting saunas or steam baths, as excessive heat can cause temporary and eventually permanent vessel dilation.

Managing Couperose Effectively

According to Safonova, while couperose is primarily an aesthetic concern, proper care and timely interventions allow its manifestations to be effectively controlled.
