Crowd trouble interrupted second-division match

A German second-division match was interrupted for 15 minutes when a fire broke out in the stands after some fans set flares alight.

The match late Monday between Rot-Weiss Essen and Hansta Rostock resumed after police stormed the section holding about 1,500 Rostock fans and subdued the troublemakers.

The referee sent the players to the locker room as soon as the fire broke out. Several flares were also thrown onto the field.

Police detained 75 people, 11 of whom could face charges. Police said 14 people were slightly injured.

The game ended 0-0.
