Olympic downhill gold medalist Antoine Deneriaz will be out for three weeks because of a right knee injury.
Deneriaz aggravated the knee after losing one of his skis while landing a jump in the Val Gardena downhill on Dec. 16, his French team said Friday.
Deneriaz has raced twice since then, but after finishing 40th in Thursday's downhill in Bormio he decided not to start Friday's race, reports AP.
Deneriaz, who has not placed better than fifth since winning the downhill at the Turin Games in February, is expected to return in the downhill in Chamonix on Jan. 20.
