French tennis player Mathieu Montcourt was found dead in front of the door to his ground floor apartment in the Paris suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt early Tuesday.
The body of the 24-year-old sportsman, currently 119th in the ATP rankings, was found by his girlfriend who then alerted the police, AFP reports.
The website of French newspaper L'Equipe reported that the death of Montcourt, who was ranked 119th in the world, has been confirmed by French tennis chief Patrice Dominguez.
The cause of death is unknown, although radio station RMC are reporting he suffered a pulmonary embolism.
The French Tennis Federation (FFT) are expected to release a statement later today, The Press Association reports.
Meanwhile the French tennis federation reacted Mathieu Montcourt death: "It is with great sadness that the French tennis federation has learned of the sudden death of Mathieu Montcourt. Mathieu was an enthusiastic young man, passionate, very endearing, and extremely appreciated for his kindness and politeness."
The federation said an autopsy will be conducted, The Associated Press reports.
