A 25-year-old American football linebacker, Lofa Tatupu, has extended his stay with the Seattle Seahawks for another 6 years. He signed a contract for $42 million which includes more than $18 million in guarantees.
Tatupu was selected 45th overall in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. In Tatupu's first three seasons, he's led the Seahawks in tackles. He has been voted to the Pro Bowl every season he's been in the NFL: 2005, 2006 and 2007. Tatupu was characterized as the glue that holds the defense together.
At first Tatupu was regarded as a slow and not very promising player, but he proved that he can be the leader of the team. He helped to change the focus of the defense with his leadership. The award for this leadership is the extension.
