Wanted Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky arrived in Latvia Wednesday evening, a spokesperson for Latvian-based Belokon Holding said. He arrived in Riga to meet with Neil Bush, the U.S. president's brother, and other stockholders of his company Ignite, the source said.
Latvian Interior Minister Erik Ekabson said earlier that if Berezovsky arrived in Riga, he would be detained and extradited to Russia. The minister made this statement after a meeting with Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office launched a criminal case against Berezovsky in August 2002, accusing him of embezzlement in the VAZ auto manufacturing company, RIA Novosti reports. In September 2004, the tycoon was granted political asylum in Britain, where he has lived since 2000.
