Prominent journalist and writer Yegor Yakovlev died after a lengthy illness at a Moscow hospital on Sunday, his wife Irina told Ekho Moskvy radio.
In the mid-1980s, Yakovlev, who founded the Obshchaya Gazeta newspaper, took the helm of Moskovskiye Novosti, which vigorously supported the ideas of Mikhail Gorbachev's 'Glasnost' policy.
