Roger Federer took six weeks off after winning Wimbledon but yesterday it looked as if he had never been away. In a repeat of this summer's Wimbledon final against Andy Roddick he defeated the American 6-3, 7-5 to take his record of winning finals to 22.
The win gave him a record fourth Masters title in one year and enabled him to match Rafael Nadal's ATP-best nine titles for 2005. Federer’s winning streak on hard courts now stretches to 28 matches - since his semi-final defeat to eventual champion Marat Safin at the Australian Open in January - and he has now won 22 successive ATP Tour deciders, with his last loss in a final in July 2003, The Guardian reports.
