Man successfully uses anti-smoking law to steal $40 thousand-worth watch

A fraudster decided to use the new law about the abolishment of public smoking to steal a very expensive watch.

The incident occurred in Montenapoleone Street in Milan, where most expensive stores are located. A Russian-speaking customer entered one of the most prestigious jewelry stores and asked a salesman to show him the most expensive watch.

A young an inexperienced shop assistant did not have any suspicion about the respectable client, who had a luxurious Rolex on his wrist. Having chosen the golden watch for 30,000 euros (almost $40,000), the fraudster said that he would like to buy it. The man was ready to pay cash, Itar-Tass reports.

The customer, however, added that he had no euros with him, although he said that he could pay another currency for the watch. While the shop assistant was calling a bank to find out if he could accept another currency, the client lit a cigarette and started smoking. The salesman kindly broke in and said that there was no smoking in the store. The customer asked the man to open the armored door so that he could smoke outside. When the fraudster came out of the store, he disappeared in an unknown direction having taken along the watch.
