Danish church won't marry gays and lesbians

Leading religious figures in the Danish church have given a firm "no" to the marrying of representatives of sexual minorities, as is also the case in several western European countries and Canada. As Itar-Tass reports, the church considers it sufficient that homosexual and lesbian weddings have been able to register their marriage in public institutions since December 1989. At the same time, literally over the head of the Church, political figures - both from the ruling parties and the opposition - have opened a fierce debate on the question. It was initiated in January by Danish Prime Minister Anders Fog Rasmussen. In an interview with one of the Sunday newspapers he allowed the possibility of church marriage for representatives of sexual minorities.
