A concert devoted to the centennial anniversary of the great Armenian composer Aram Khachaturyan's birthday (1903 - 1978) took place in the Russian Embassy in Washington.
Russian Ambassador Yuri Ushakov and Armenian Ambassador Armen Kirakosyan addressed the audience before the concert.
The Russian diplomat underscored that in his work Aram Khachaturyan was inspired and influenced by cultures of many different countries, yet his music primarily originates from the cultural heritage of his own homeland. The composer won international acclaim and recognition for his piano, violin and cello concertos, as well as his music for the Gayane (1942) and Spartacus (1954) ballets.
On his part, Armen Kirakosyan pointed out that in addition to the influence of other cultures, it was the long-standing cultural ties between Armenia and Russia that had strongly inspired the remarkable composer in his creative work.
The concert in the Russian Embassy featured Aram Khachaturyan's works as well as music by Armenian, European and American composers performed by young and talented Armenian musicians.
