Strange cookery experts

Recently a 22-year-old dwellers of the village Makoyedovo, Pskov Region, was caught red-handed: he was trying to sell 200 g of poppy straw. While in the settlement Krasny Luch, the workers of the local internal affairs office found in the satchel of 17-year-old local dweller 33 kg of the straw and 6 kg of poppy bulbs.

The young man (who has previous convictions) explained to the police that he needs all this for culinary aims. Apropos, such a strange culinary tradition seems to have really old roots in these settlement, for the title of the village Makoyedovo could be translated like “the settlement of poppy-seed eaters.”
