According to what Luc Ferry, France's Minister for Youth, National Education and Research said on Monday, July 8, during the observance of St. Petersburg's tercentenary, an extensive press conference will be given specifically for French reporters who write about Russia. The event will be attended by members of Russia's artistic elite.
As the minister further said, while he met with members of Russia's artistic intelligentsia on July 8, discussed was the insufficiency of cultural exchange between Russia and France. 'An opinion was voiced', Mr. Ferry said, 'that France's knowledge of contemporary Russian art was not good enough, which was the reason Russia's artists, authors, and musicians were seldom invited to visit'.
The minister noted the good impression the meeting had made on him, concluding, 'Moscow's artistic people are very talented, interesting and even somewhat amusing'.
