St. Petersburg-Astrakhan-Novorossiisk World Cup Off-road to Take off August 1

World Cup all-terrain automobile and motorcycle Master Rally 2002 will be, for the first time, held fully in Russia, following from St. Petersburg to Novorossiisk via Astrakhan. According to the organising committee, the reconnaissance of the 5,000 km route was completed recently. The race will take off from St. Isaac's Square in St. Petersburg and continue from August 1 through 11.

Rene Metge, Sports Director of the race, believes that this route through the woods, sands, steppes, semi-deserts and Caucasian foothills is not only interesting sports-wise but is also very educational. The participants of the race will have a chance to see the finest spots in Russia.

Over 100 racers from 15 countries have applied for participation.
