In Russia, Men's Death Rate is 4 Times That of Women

According to the statement made by Alexander Razumov, Director of Russia's Research Centre of Reconstructive Medicine and Resorts, during Tuesday, June 25, staff meeting of the Ministry of Health, in Russia, men's death rate is 4 times that of women.

He said that the overall tendencies in Russia's death rate were greatly affected by the increased number of deaths among people of working ages, while among the recent dead in this age group men accounted for 80%. 'In Russia', Mr. Razumov concluded, 'these figures are 2 or 4 times greater than in economically developed countries'.

During the past decades, the primary causes of diseases and deaths have been professional and social health defects. 'Accidents, poisonings, and trauma, including those occurring at work', Mr. Razumov continued saying, 'today are the second most significant collective cause of death after cardiovascular diseases'.

Mr. Rasumov concluded by stating that the Ministry of Health of Russia must fundamentally change its policies. 'From the healthcare system oriented toward treating already existing diseases', he said, 'we must move on to the system that aims at disease prevention, including assuring healthier life conditions for people'.

The Research Centre of Reconstructive Medicine and Resorts jointly with a large number of special profile institutions is developing an appropriate programme entitled 'Health Care to Prevent the Healthy from Becoming Ill'.
