One of the central events of Russia's cinematographic life is the 24th Moscow International Festival opening on Friday in the Russian capital. President of the festival, film director Nikita Mikhalkov said that the main "St. George" award will be presented to real film masters who use the language of the films to gain a deeper insight into the nature of the human soul.
"We shall be glad to welcome world cinema stars here. And it is also a great honour for us to open the way to big cinema for those who are so far unknown to the world cinematographic community. Representatives of recognized film powers and countries where the film industry is only making its first steps are both welcome guests in Moscow," said Mikhalkov.
Competing in this year's film festival will be 16 pictures from Yugoslavia, Italy, Poland, Denmark, USA, Iran, Brazil and Japan. This time Russia will present three films.
