A hasty assessment of police actions to curb yesterday's mass unrest in Moscow may confuse both society and the top and ranks of the interior bodies, said Vladimir Vasilyev, Russia's Deputy Interior Minister.
He found it premature to qualify police action during football fans' clashes in Manezhnaya Square, in the very heart of Moscow, as inaction, and as over-use of force in Pushkinskaya Square, 500 metres off Manezhnaya.
Federal Interior Minister Boris Gryzlov has issued a resolution instructing to open a criminal case and investigation into the mass disorders and an inquiry into the police effort to ensure order and security during the soccer match between Russia and Japan, which was livecast in a few of the city's squares, recalled Mr Vasilyev. Russia lost to Japan 0:1.
