A high-ranking source in the Japanese embassy has told RIA Novosti that the diplomatic service was preparing to ask the Russian Interior Ministry (MVD) to take measures after a Japanese citizen was beaten.
According to the source, a high-ranking Japanese diplomat telephoned a duty MVD officer at 19.00 (local time) on Sunday and requested that the Russian authorities take all the necessary measures to guarantee the safety and security of Japanese citizens in the Russian capital. The embassy said that the request would be made again on Monday, but at a higher level.
According to the Japanese side's information, a Japanese citizen was attacked at about 15.00 yesterday near the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street. He was left with light injuries to the face.
According to the embassy's information, up to 1,000 Japanese citizens are currently living in Moscow.
