Colombian government wants prostitutes to be neat

The government of Bogota set forth tough sanitary requirements to those women, who are involved in the Colombian sex industry. Pursuant to the new requirements, prostitutes will have to use mattresses covered with plastic, change sheets and get rid of lice, cockroaches and rats.

“Sex industry workers will obtain a higher status now, they will be respected more,” – the Mayor of Bogota Antanas Mockus said, commenting on the news. These requirements were introduced after the mayor of Bogota asked for explanations concerning uncontrolled brothels. The new rules will have certain restrictions. In the future, brothels will be situated only in special areas of the Colombian capital, they will have to have air conditioning, showers and toilets. Prostitution was legalized in Colombia long time ago, prostitutes and police officers stand on one and the same streets at night.
