An Egyptian company launched production of potato chips with the photo of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat on the package. There are three kinds of the chips: with cheese, tomato and paprika.
There is Palestine’s national flag on the package’s back, and the package itself bears an inscription: “Abu Ammar is hero of the struggle”, Russia’s Vesti RTR TV program informs. Abu Ammar is Arafat’s party pseudonym still used in Arab countries.
Spokesmen for the Egyptian company say, the idea to produce such chips was suggested by one of the company’s sales managers. The result was immediate. The new product greatly increased trade turnover of the company, as the chips became the best-seller. As of now export of Abu Ammar chips is negotiated.
Money earned with sale of Arafat chips is planned to be sent to the Palestinian people for creation of a state of their own. BBC informs, earnings of every 25th package of chips will be sent to Palestinians, but no exact recepient organization is named. One package of chips costs five piastres (about five American cents).
