The condition of Border Guards General Vitaly Gamov worsened on Thursday afternoon to a point where doctors describe it as critical, Russia's Consul General to Sapporo Nail Latypov said on Friday.
Doctors in charge of Gamov's case registered a worsening in the blood composition and other vital statistics, and raised the oxygen level on the general's resuscitation apparatus to maximum.
Unfortunately, surgery is impossible, doctors said.
Vitaly Gamov is being treated in the hospital of the Medical University of Sapporo on the Northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, where he was flown from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. On the night of May 21st, someone threw three Molotov cocktails into the window of the flat occupied by Vitaly and Larisa Gamov. As a result, the couple suffered bad burns, burns of upper respiratory tracts, and third-degree shock. Mrs. Gamov was taken to a hospital in Tokyo, where she successfully underwent her first skin transplantation operation yesterday. Her condition is characterized as "stable."
