The Chinese government put forward the initiative to modernise a St. Petersburg bridge by the city's 300th anniversary which is to be marked in 2003. The St. Petersburg governor Vladimir Yakovlev said this at a briefing Monday following his meeting with the Chinese foreign minister Tang Jiaxuan. As he said, it is yet unknown "which bridge will be modernised by the Chinese side." Apart from this, the Chinese cities of Shaanxi and Shanghai are going to send their artistic groups to take part in jubilee festivities, and the government of the Sichuan province intend to make a picture made of flowers for the park devoted to the 300th anniversary. It is also planned to organise a display on the "History of Relations between China and St. Petersburg" and to publish a photo album entitled "China and Chinese People in St. Petersburg". China's foreign minister Tang Jiaxuan said that he did not know yet which particular jubilee projects would be proposed by Shanghai, the St. Petersburg's twin city. "However, I am sure that St. Petersburg residents will enjoy them," Tang Jiaxuan said in conclusion.
