Shakespeare’s love potion recreated

The love potion that the English playwright William Shakespeare described in his “Midsummer Night’s Dream” has been recreated by a team of chemists.

Called “pixie potion”, the love elixir is made from herbs, as described in Shakespeare’s play, in which it was used on Titania, the queen of the fairies, who fell hopelessly in love with the first person she met.

The Royal Society of Chemists studied the text and produced the elixir. The Royal Shakespeare Society is testing it in its productions at the Globe Theatre, London, a reconstruction of Shakespeare’s theatre, which burnt down in a fire.

Should there be a result, it could become a competitor to Viagra…but could the product not be marketed under another name? Surely, “Romeo and Juliet” would be better than “Pixie potion”?
