The Lithuanian Border Guard Service delegation headed by its chief Commissioner Algimantas Songaila that arrived in Russia on October 16 is due to visit units of the Russian Federal Frontier Guard Service's North-Western Regional Administration. The Lithuanian border guards will, in particular, visit the Svetogorsk checkpoint and a frontier post of the Vyborg border guard detachment. On October 16 Songaila held negotiations with Federal Frontier Guard Service Konstantin Totsky. said after the talks that relations between the Russian and Lithuanian departments are positive in all respects. Stability on the Russian-Lithuanian border is maintained by joint efforts. The issue of international crime in the Baltic region was accentuated during the talks, illegal migration and drugs trafficking being focused on. According to Songaila, the Russian-Lithuanian cooperation is "rather weak" as far as aversion of drug-trafficking is concerned. Totsky, in particular, informed his Lithuanian counterpart about the situation on the Tajik-Afghan and Russian-Georgian borders. Songaila said that he was "satisfied" with this information and the Russian forecast.
