On Thursday Russian Civil Defence Forces Turn 69 Years Old

On Thursday the civil defence (GO) forces of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry are celebrating the 69th anniversary. The GO forces participate in eliminating the consequences of emergency situations of a natural and technogenic character, evacuate the population affected by emergency situations, and supply it with food and necessities, RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. On October 4, 1932, the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR approved the Regulations on Local Air Defence which became a predecessor of the civil defence forces. Before 1991 the GO forces formed part of the Ministry of Defence. In 1991, after the cold war termination, they were transferred to the Emergency Situations Ministry of Russia.
