The Russian defence ministry does everything that's in its power to liberate Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Boryayev, who is kept hostage by Chechen militants, said a source in the defence ministry press service, commenting on media reports that official structures "show no interest" in the fate of the captured officer. Apparent reasons have so far kept the defence ministry from disclosing the details of its actions to liberate Boryayev, said the source, who cited specialists as saying that wide public response to the subject could only complicate matters. The operation to liberate Lieutenant Colonel Boryayev from Chechen captivity is personally supervised by Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov.
