Milsoevic Trial Set For February 12th 2002

Judge Richard May has today set the date for the trial of ex-Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevic at the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia at the Hague. It will begin at the UN prison in the Dutch capital on February 12th 2002. The judge said that at least the trial into Milosevic's alleged crimes in Kosovo in 1999 should start. The former Yugoslavian leader was charged with more crimes during the 1991-2 Serbian-Croatian war on Monday. The office of Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte is preparing materials for that trial. Moreover, del Ponte is set to produce more charges against Milosevic in relation to Bosnia and Herzegovina next week. She has previously announced that Milosevic will be charged with genocide - the most serious crime covered by the tribunal. The chief prosecutor would like to see all the cases tried at the same time.
