Russian president Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which funds are allocated from the Russian president's reserve in the last quarter of the year 2001 to repair Russian regions' educational establishments that suffered from natural disasters. The decree is aimed at improving social protection of children. 1.6 million rubles (1 USD is 29.70 rubles) was allotted to the government of the North Caucasian republic of Ingushetia to repair boarding school 4 in the town of Malgobek. 5 million rubles was allocated to the Maritime Territory's (Far East) administration to repair damaged educational establishments, 2.9 million rubles to the Sakhalin region (Russia's easternmost insular region) administration. The Magadan region will receive 2,216.5 thousand rubles to repair the buildings of the Orotukanskaya boarding school for orphans and children no longer looked after by parents. The Astrakhan region (mouth of the Volga river) administration was earmarked 1.5 million rubles to repair the building of the Regional Center of children's and young people's artistic development.
