The first session of the tutorial board of the Bolshoi Theater took place in Moscow. Russian Culture minister Mikhail Shvydkoi and Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov headed the board made up of Russian government and presidential administration representatives and prominent figures of Russian business circles. Opening the session, Mikhail Shvydkoi stressed the board's role in supporting the theater's creative projects. The Bolshoi's general director Anatoly Iksanov reported on the concept of the theater's artistic development and forthcoming reforms. According to him, there are three stages to follow: until January 2003, when the main building is closed; during the reconstruction (at a branch office), and starting from 2006, when the theater is to return to its main building and start its activity on two stages. Long-term creative planning, invitation of world's famous performers and conductors, series of chamber concerts at the Beethoven hall - all these are aimed at improving the quality of the Bolshoi's performances and attracting spectators, said Iksanov.
