Measures Taken By Russian Railways To Prevent Anthrax Contamination

Following the incidents of anthrax infection in postal workers in the USA, all mail on the Moscow railways is being opened at a special location to initially process the incoming correspondence. This was disclosed by the Moscow Railway press service. The routine of the postal trains is proceeding as usual. However, the railway management and sanitary epidemiologist service have taken extreme measures to prevent biological and chemical terrorism. Making the lives of postal workers safe is not that complicated, said the press service. Workers are provided with individual means of protecting the skin and breathing, specialist clothing, gloves and respirators. They are also taught methods to recognise and detect suspicious mail and how to work with them.
