The new European Union currency – the Euro – experiences its first bank robbery in the Netherlands.
The robbery was undertaken by two armed men, who managed to steal 250,000 Euro (210,000 USD) from the Rabobank branch in Amstelveen, near Amsterdam.
There has already been a train robbery, in Germany, when a train distributing Euro was attacked and in Italy, the new currency was stolen when a post office was attacked.
The Euro enters the pockets of citizens in 12 Member States on 1st January, a measure which is bound to generate great confusion in many countries, since the new and old currencies will co-exist for two months.
